Track clicks on your links.

Choose which links to track. Clicks pass through MailViewed's link domain, then straight to your page. A click is the strongest read signal there is.

Opens tell you the email was displayed; clicks tell you it was read. Link tracking is opt-in and per link: turn on Link click tracking in Settings, and when your caret is on a link in Gmail's compose window a small Track clicks switch appears. In the dashboard's Compose, the Track link clicks switch starts on or off to match that setting; with it on, every link you add is tracked, and each one has its own tracked/not tracked toggle.

  • A tracked link points at a short address on MailViewed's link domain, shown in your Settings under Link click tracking. A click passes through it and goes straight to your page. The short address is a random code; the page it leads to isn't written in it.
  • The email's detail page lists every tracked link with its human click count, including the links nobody clicked, which is signal too.
  • Clicks count bots out, same as opens.

A real click also marks the conversation Hot and, on Pro, rings your bell the moment it happens.

Tracking changes where a link points, not the words people see. If those words are a web address, such as docs.google.com/document/…, someone who hovers sees that address in your email and a different one, on MailViewed's link domain, at the bottom of their screen. That looks odd, and some mail filters treat a link whose text shows one address while it goes to another as a warning sign, because phishing emails use the same trick to hide where a link goes. A link with a name, such as Google Doc or the proposal, has nothing to mismatch.

So when you track a link whose text is a web address, recent versions of the extension offer a name: Google Doc, Google Sheet, Google Slides, Google Drive file or Google Drive folder for Google links, otherwise the site's name, such as notion.so. Edit it if you like, then press Name it. Renaming changes only the link's text; it still goes to the same page. Keep the address tracks it as before, and the extension won't ask about that link again while you write.

Google Docs and Drive links: when you send a link to a Drive file, Gmail checks that your recipients can open it and offers to share it if they can't. It can't see the file behind a tracked link, so make sure the file is shared with your recipient first.

On Outreach, once your own domain is active, tracked links use it instead, such as link.yourcompany.com, so the address people see on hover is your own. See Track through your own domain.
