Tracking is paused on this account: what it means.
Your emails still send and nothing is lost. Why MailViewed pauses tracking on an account, what you'll see, and how to get it back.
If your dashboard shows Tracking is paused on this account, MailViewed has stopped tracking new emails for your account. Three things stay true while it's paused: emails you send from Gmail still go out as usual, just without the pixel or the ticks; your dashboard and everything already tracked stay exactly where they are; and the pause is lifted by a person, when you write to us.
What you'll see
- Dashboard and Compose: a notice at the top with a Contact support button. It can't be dismissed; it goes away when the pause is lifted.
- In Gmail: when you send, the email leaves normally and the extension tells you, once in a while rather than on every send: Tracking is paused on this MailViewed account, so this email was sent without tracking. Your other emails send normally. If you have individual copies for group emails on, a group send stops to ask first, because copies can't go out while paused; you can send it as one group email or keep editing.
- Compose in the dashboard: Send is refused with Tracking is paused on this account, so the composer can't send right now. Your draft stays on your device. Compose sends through MailViewed rather than through Gmail's own Send button, which is why it pauses too.
- Your inbox: an email from [email protected] titled Tracking is paused on your account explains why, and another, Tracking is back on, arrives when it's resumed.
Why it happens
There are two versions of the notice, and its first line tells you which you have.
Tracking is paused on this account after an unusually high sending volume in the last 24 hours is the automatic one. Tracking runs through hosts shared with every other MailViewed user, and their reputation is shared too: a very large number of tracked emails to individual recipients in a short time looks like an automated campaign rather than one-to-one email, and that pattern is what gets shared tracking hosts blocklisted. MailViewed is built for correspondence, so past a point it pauses tracking on the account as a backstop, by itself, and emails you to say so. This is a different thing from the high-volume tracking host: busy senders move to that host first, with nothing paused. See Fair use and tracking hosts.
The plain Tracking is paused on this account. means it was paused by hand rather than automatically. The effects are the same, and so is the way back.
Getting tracking back
Reply to the pause email or use the Contact support button, and tell us what you send and to whom. A busy person emailing real correspondents is exactly who MailViewed is for, and if that's you, say so; if we've read the account wrong, we'll fix it.
Resuming is done by hand. You get the Tracking is back on email, the notice disappears, and new emails you send from Gmail get their ticks as before. Emails sent while paused stay untracked: there was no pixel in them, and nothing can add one afterwards.
Our terms put it in one line: accounts that track far more than the fair-use volume on the shared tracking host may have new emails tracked through a separate high-volume host, or tracking paused; your emails themselves always send.
